I never thought that I would get excited at the prospect of brushing my teeth with tap water. This is and interesting way to start a blog post, but I thought that my bathroom is best way to illustrate the differences between how I live in Cambodia and how you all back in the US live. This is my bathroom here in Cambodia-
As you can see, it is all one room. the shower and the toilet are all in one tiny cubicle. I have no sink and even if I did, I would not be able to use it for anything other than washing my hands, as the water is not clean. Instead, I brush my teeth over the drain next to the toilet. I am fortunate to have both a hot water heater and a western toilet.
Although some people may see this as a hardship, I don't. It just makes me appreciate what I have back home. Appreciate what you have, especially if it is something that you take for granted every day, like clean tap water.
That bathroom design is AWESOME! Just think of all the time you can save multi-tasking. You can use the toilet, shower, brush your teeth, and clean the bathroom all at the same time! On top of that, you have the health benefit of building up your immune system by ingesting small amounts of bacteria in the water supply. You are becoming a super-human! :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, we are praying for you on a regular basis. I know that living in a foreign culture has many difficulties. This experience will provide you a new sense of perspective as you look at this world and the people in it. It really will make you super-human in several ways.
Your "second cousin' Jeremiah spent 3 years in Korea, and his bathrooms were the same. You're right, we take so much for granted. --Nanette
